A Shared Respect for the Wild: Our Collaboration with Hunter Gatherer Cooking

What’s Cooking in the Country?

In today’s busy world, where convenience is often key, it’s easy to call at the supermarket, pick up something for tea, and not really think twice about where any of it has come from.
And we’re all guilty of it- life gets busy, after all.

But for a lot of us, countryside life has always gone hand in hand with food, and not just eating it, but understanding it too. Whether it’s venison prepped after a successful stalk, a brace brought home fresh from the field, or simply cooking around the BBQ with good ingredients and good company, more and more people are finding themselves drawn towards the field-to-fork way of eating.

Here at Hollands, it’s one of the reasons we’re so excited to be supporting Hunter Gatherer Cooking and the brilliant content Alex is creating around wild game recipes, field-to-fork cooking, and outdoor life. From cooking venison over open fire pits to butchery preparation and countryside food chats, his content brings a refreshingly down-to-earth approach to countryside cooking and ethical eating.

So, pull up a seat by the fire pit as we introduce our exciting partnership with Hunter Gatherer Cooking, and a little of what we’ve got in store.

Who Is Hunter Gatherer Cooking? A Taste of the Wild, Served Up Online

For those yet to come across the name, Hunter Gatherer Cooking is the online platform and growing community founded by adventurer and field-to-fork enthusiast Alex Russon.

Through a combination of wild venison recipes, butchery guides, outdoor cooking videos filmed beside crackling fire pits, and countryside storytelling, Alex has built a strong following on the Hunter Gatherer Cooking YouTube Channel. For everyone from country sports lovers to foodies, and those simply wanting to reconnect with where their food comes from, he brings a refreshingly relaxed and approachable feel to field-to-fork cooking (which we’re very much here for!)

We actually first met Alex at The Stalking Show 2026, where he was also working the halls and sharing his craft with crowds throughout the weekend, and it quickly became clear how naturally our two brands aligned. Both Hollands and Hunter Gatherer Cooking are rooted in the countryside and share the same appreciation for outdoor life, sustainable food, and the traditions that come with it.

And that’s exactly why we feel it resonates so strongly with our audience too. Whether it’s preparing game after a day in the field, learning more about sustainable meat, or enjoying good country cooking, Hunter Gatherer Cooking celebrates the same countryside values many of us already know and love, served up on an easily accessible online plate for all to enjoy.

From Field to Flame: Why It Resonates

And that plate is clearly striking hot, as interest in sustainable meat, wild food, and learning more about how food gets from field to plate has grown hugely in recent years.
Whether you enjoy shooting, stalking, beating, fishing, or just spending time outdoors, there’s always something genuinely satisfying about preparing food properly and understanding the journey behind it. I always think it gives you a completely different appreciation for what ends up on the plate… and, somehow, food always seems to taste better when it’s cooked outdoors too!

It’s something we feel Alex’s content captures really well. It’s not overly polished or staged, but honest, countryside cooking done properly- whether he’s preparing venison by the fire, talking through butchery and prep, or trying to keep track of what’s cooking while a spaniel circles hopefully underneath!

And truthfully, after watching enough of his videos, you do start convincing yourself you could probably cook over open flames every weekend… although whether mine would turn out quite as well, or end with me overcooking the sausages while Billy hoovers up the evidence, is another matter entirely!

What to Expect (and Why We’re Excited About It)

If you do decide to dive into the world of Hunter Gatherer Cooking, you can certainly expect plenty of open-fire cooking, venison prep, butchery chats, countryside adventures, and the kind of videos that immediately make you want to cook outdoors (even if it’s drizzling and you’ve only got half a bag of charcoal left in the shed!)

But it’s also about far more than just the cooking taking the spotlight here. There’s a whole host of knowledge that comes with the process and the wider context behind field-to-fork, and Alex’s relaxed approach that makes you feel right at home learning about it too; it’s educational without being intimidating and informative without losing the fun of it all.

One minute you’re learning about preparing wild game properly, the next there’s a dog wandering through shot or someone trying to rescue something from the flames- it’s definitely relatable, and kind of sounds like one of our staff BBQ’s to be honest!

And that’s probably why the partnership feels like such a natural fit for us at Hollands. Beyond the recipes and cooking demos, it’s really about shared countryside values – the knowledge, craftsmanship, sustainability, and genuinely embracing the lifestyle, not just the look of it that’s so important.

Keep an Eye on the Fire Pit…

As our partnership with Hunter Gatherer Cooking grows, we’re excited to be supporting more of Alex’s content and getting hands-on and involved along the way, too, with a few familiar Hollands faces popping up from time to time. We’re looking forward to sharing more field-to-fork cooking inspiration, countryside stories, and practical outdoor content with our customers- hopefully with only the occasional burnt sausage along the way (but no promises!)

So whether you’re already well-versed in preparing wild game or simply curious to learn more about where your food comes from, we hope the content encourages more people to get involved, ask questions, and enjoy the traditions that countryside life has to offer.
And if all this talk of outdoor cooking, muddy boots and evenings around the fire has inspired you, you can explore more over on the Hollands Country Clothing website, including our Deerhunter collection, field clothing, country lifestyle favourites, and practical kit built for life in the countryside.

So, keep your eyes peeled, and we’ll see you at the firepit soon!
