Your Guide to the 2024 Chatsworth Country Fair

There’s something about the Chatsworth Country Fair that makes it a highlight of our year.

Maybe it’s because we’re locals, living just on the edge of the Peak District ourselves. Or maybe it’s because it perfectly captures everything we love about the countryside—good food, great company, and a whole lot of fun.

If you’re planning to visit (and you absolutely should!), this guide will give you all the details you need to make the most of your day.

Event Overview

You may recognise Chatsworth House from the 2005 film, Pride and Prejudice, or you may have seen it on telly around Christmas time. It's a stunning location and draws thousands of visitors throughout the year.

The game fair is an annual family-friendly outdoor event that is spread out across the 1000-acre parkland surrounding the house. It boasts 3 days of entertainment that makes for an exciting weekend - and the beautiful surroundings are a big plus too!

Where and When

  • Location: Chatsworth House, Bakewell, Derbyshire, DE45 1PP
  • Dates: Friday, 30th August 2024 – Sunday, 1st September 2024
  • Gates Open: 9 AM

Driving is the easiest way to get there, especially since there’s free parking available on-site. As you get closer, you’ll find plenty of signs guiding you to the nearest car park, so don’t worry about getting lost.

If you do want to take public transport, the nearest bus stop is in Edensor. The house bus stop will be closed for the duration of the event.

Practical Tips

We hope you are now as excited as we are to head to the Chatsworth Fair this year, so we thought we'd round up a few key bits of practical information to wrap up with.

What Should I Wear?

This isn't just us being biased here, but country clothing truly is the best option for this event! This is a country fair, so comfort is key. Think layers—you’ll be out in the open, so it's good to be prepared for rain, sun, and everything else.

We suggest the following:

  • Comfortable footwear: You’ll be doing a lot of walking, so make sure your feet are happy. Wellies or walking boots are a good shout, particularly if the weather's not been great in the lead up and the ground is a bit muddy.
  • Waterproof jacket: Just in case the heavens open—better safe than sorry!
  • Sun protection: If the sun does make an appearance, you’ll want a hat and sunscreen to keep you protected.

For us, a gilet is always a good idea, as it gives you that little bit of warmth you'll need in the chilly mornings and evenings.

Can I Bring My Dog?

Well-behaved dogs on leads are more than welcome at the fair. In fact, there are even some activities they can get involved in, like the have-a-go dog races.

Just make sure they’re comfortable with crowds and the excitement of the day.

Where Can I Buy Tickets?

Tickets for the Chatsworth Country Fair are available online through the official website, and it’s always a good idea to purchase them in advance—not only do you secure your spot, but you also get a discount!

Here are the different ticket options available:

  • Single-Day Tickets: Perfect if you’re planning to visit for just one day. Pick the day that suits you best and enjoy all the fair has to offer.
  • Two-Day Tickets: Can’t get enough in just one day? The two-day ticket allows you to return for another round of fun and exploration.
  • Three-Day Tickets: For the ultimate experience, a three-day ticket gives you access to all three days of the fair, so you don’t miss a single thing.
  • Carer Tickets: If you’re accompanying someone with accessibility needs, carer tickets are available to ensure everyone can enjoy the fair.

Under 16s enter free, but they must be accompanied by an adult. You can also buy tickets at the gate, but to avoid the queues and make the most of the discounted prices, it’s wise to book early.

Can I Visit the House & Gardens Too?

Yes, but with a few caveats.

Ticket holders for the Chatsworth Country Fair can access Chatsworth House and Gardens on the day of their visit, but due to capacity restrictions, availability is limited and offered on a first-come, first-served basis.

If you’re keen to explore the house and gardens, it’s best to plan ahead and get there early to secure your spot. Please note that during the fair, the farmyard and adventure playground are closed.

Accessibility Information

Event Mobility is available for visitors who require assistance, offering electric scooters and manual wheelchairs for use throughout the day.

To reserve one, you can book online or contact the office directly. It’s important to book at least two days before the event, as bookings aren’t taken during the fair. On the day, any remaining equipment will be offered on a first-come, first-served basis, so booking in advance is your safest bet.

If you’ve reserved accessibility items, be sure to enter through the Golden Gates entrance as specified on your ticket.
