Your Essential Country Clothing Guide for Autumn & Winter 2024
As a farming family through and through, country clothing has, of course, always been our go-to, and we’ve experienced its evolution through every season. One of our absolute favourite times of the year is when the new autumn and winter arrivals start flooding into our warehouse. This year, we’re truly amazed - our brands have really outdone themselves!
With the seasons changing, it’s the perfect time for a wardrobe refresh. As temperatures drop and rain becomes a regular guest (with some snow likely too, especially here in the Peak District), it’s time to start stocking up for the season ahead.
So, this guide brings together everything you need to know about what’s new, what’s on trend, and what’s worth adding to your collection this autumn/winter.
2024 Trends in Country Clothing
Country wear is timeless - no doubt about it (even if we are a bit biased)!
However, every year brings a few exciting trends to the forefront. In 2024, we’ve seen:
- Heritage Fabrics with a Contemporary Twist: Traditional materials like tweed and herringbone are being reimagined in modern, flattering cuts.
- Luxury Country Attire for the Discerning Fashionista: High-end country pieces are still in high demand, blending tradition with a touch of glamour.
- Embracing Rural Chic: Rustic prints, earthy hues, and comfortable yet stylish silhouettes are everywhere, adding a relaxed elegance to country style.
- The Versatility of Country Clothing: Whether you're exploring the countryside or the city, country lifestyle is merging seamlessly with urban fashion, incorporating streetwear influences.
And this seems to hold true for what brands have brought to the table for autumn/winter (including some garments that have even been trending in British Vogue).
Country Footwear for Autumn/Winter 2024
First up, let's talk about footwear. Shoes are a make or break for country life. All of us have been caught in a muddy field or had to manoeuvre puddle-dotted country lanes - usually with a dog or two desperate to jump in them!
So we can appreciate the value of a decent pair of country boots or wellies for the winter season.
We all know a good pair of wellies is like a trusty friend by the front door. But if yours are looking a bit worse for wear, the Seeland Womens Hillside Flex Wellington Boots (and the men's version) are perfect for getting you through muddy fields and rainy walks.
We’ve picked out a few key styles you’ll love from our new arrivals:
- Cowboy boots have been having their moment again lately, and we don’t see that changing anytime soon. Durango and Ariat are the big brand names you will absolutely love here.
- Few boots have the lasting appeal of a good Chelsea boot. We all know and love the Blundstone 585s, but this season brings some fantastic new choices.
- We also recently added Tricker's into our footwear collection, and these are fantastic for any men needing something stylish for any smart events over the winter season.
And, of course, you've got your soft fluffy slippers to soothe your feet after a long day out on the farm!
Cold & Wet Weather Clothing For the Season
Next up are your outer layers, like waterproof jackets and trench coats, and your winter warms, such as knitwear, quilted jackets, and beanies.
This year, we’re seeing some gorgeous feminine sweaters from Dubarry, and we’re loving the longline cardigans that Ariat has brought out - perfect for cosy nights in by the fire. These can also be layered under a long waterproof coat, like the extensive range of beautiful Joules or Didriksons coats.
There's a sporty theme creeping in this year too, which fits into the urban lifestyle trend we mentioned earlier. Stylish sweatshirts from Musto are great for both country walks and casual days.
And with rugby shirts earning their traction, you've got versatile country wear that won't look out of place when you're in town doing your Christmas shopping or taking the kids to parties and events.
Buff knitted neck warmers and beanies are flying off the shelves as well. Particularly those in autumnal colours like burnt orange, deep burgundy, and rich forest green, which are are perfect for this time of year. Incorporating these shades into your accessories can enhance the seasonal feel and add warmth to your outfits.
The Timeless Appeal of Tweed Jackets
With British Vogue touting “Town and Country” as a major theme for the season, it’s no surprise that tweed, herringbone, and argyle patterns are popping up everywhere.
We have some absolutely stunning tweed jackets and blazers in our collection, for both men and women. Alan Paine has absolutely nailed it, though that's no surprise to anyone! Their jackets are tailored beautifully, and you can easily dress them up or down, depending on the day.
For example, pair a sleek tweed blazer with tailored trousers and a crisp white shirt (or blouse). Add a pair of ankle boots or smart brogues, and you're ready for a night out or a meeting in town. On the flip side, if you’re looking for a more laid-back vibe, try layering your tweed jacket over a chunky knit sweater and your favourite jeans.
We've also put together some detailed guides on how to style tweed jackets - one for women and one for men. So take a look if you're keen to really embrace this Vogue trend.
Fun Prints & Western Style Vibes
If you’re looking to add a bit of personality to your wardrobe, fun prints are definitely part of what's hot for autumn/winter 2024.
Joules brings a playful touch with the “What the Flock” Intarsia Sheep Jumper, while Ariat has something a bit bolder with their “Keep Walkin’ Cowboy” T-shirt - both great options for those laid-back weekends. These make great gifts for friends and family too.
Western style is still going strong this season, with plaid shirts and skinny jeans making a bold comeback. Pair them with cowboy boots for that perfect blend of country and town-ready style.
And don’t forget about the resurgence of ponchos! They’re back in style and ideal for layering, adding warmth and a stylish twist to your outfits.
Country Sports & Outdoor Activities
Sharp, sleek, and technical is the theme of the season for all your shooting and equestrian clothing. The mix of traditional country style with advanced tech for waterproofing and breathability is something we truly appreciate out in the field.
For my fellow country ladies, the new Harkila Womens Jura GTX Jacket is a prime example of this impeccable tailoring and advanced features that you won't want to miss. For the gents, my brothers have been fawning over the new Deerhunter Eagle Winter Jacket, so this is a great place to start if you're in the market for a new shooting jacket.
LeMieux have got plenty for all us equestrians too. Their performance-driven waterproof riding jackets are fantastic for when you're facing the British weather, and don't forget to stock up on thermal baselayers to keep you warm around the stables.
We also can't not mention heated gilets. These are hot property (pun intended) and the perfect layer for under any type of outdoor jacket. If you haven't heard what all the fuss is about with these, we share more over here.
And finally, if you're heading out to the slopes, Helly Hansen's ski range is seriously outstanding. These garments also come in incredibly useful for snowy days in the countryside!
Country Clothing Gifts for Men, Women, and Kids
Finally, with Christmas around the corner, it's the perfect time to think about treating someone (or yourself!) to something special.
Here are a few gift ideas we think any country clothing lover would appreciate:
- Trucker Caps: These are the hat of the moment, and we've got brilliant Ridgeline and Stetson trucker caps to choose from.
- Scarves: Every winter wardrobe needs a gorgeous Joules Langtree Scarf! We love how soft and warm they are, with the check pattern definitely very much in style.
- Ties: Tattersall shirts are a mens country clothing staple, and we've got the perfect tie to pair one with: the Dubarry Men's Madden Silk Tie. It's got that luxurious feel to it, and would make the perfect present for shooters.
- Kids Gifts: And for the little ones, the ever-popular LeMieux Toy Ponies are always a bestselling gift for kids who love animals. Popcorn, Skye, Bubbles, and more are waiting to become your child's new favourite toy!
