Highlights of the 2024 UK Equestrian Calendar

Let's start off with a few of the top events that you should definitely check out this year!


Royal Windsor Horse Show

  • Date: Wednesday 1st - Sunday 5th May 2024
  • Location: Windsor Castle, Windsor

The Royal Windsor Horse Show holds a prestigious spot in the equestrian world, with a history dating back to its first event in 1943, initially created to aid the War effort. From its beginnings, the show has grown into a major event, drawing equestrian fans worldwide.

Today, it's the UK's only show with top international competitions in Show Jumping, Dressage, Driving, and Endurance.

Key Highlights:

  • Royal Legacy: With deep roots in the British Royal family's equestrian passion, the late Queen herself was an avid participant, with her first win in the Pony and Dogcart class. The late Prince Philip, competing until 2003, also added to the event's appeal with his skills in the International Driving Grand Prix.
  • Exciting New Additions: Reinventing itself for 2024, the show introduces "The Hubs" - five special interest areas aimed at improving the visitor experience. With live presentations, demonstrations, and performances, The Hubs offer a mix of entertainment, alongside top equestrian competitions and shopping.


Badminton Horse Trials

  • Date: Wednesday 8th May - Sunday 12th May 2024
  • Location: Badminton House, South Gloucestershire

Badminton Horse Trials is a top event in the equestrian world, known for its challenging competitions over four days, testing horses and riders in various disciplines.

Key Highlights:

  • Ultimate Test of Skill: Over four days, participants undergo a tough test of their skills and partnership. It starts with dressage, requiring discipline and elegance, followed by a four-mile cross-country course that tests fitness and stamina against tough obstacles. The event concludes with show jumping, testing agility and precision.
  • Celebrating Tradition: Marking its 75th anniversary, Badminton Horse Trials has released a special documentary featuring memories from figures like Her Royal Highness the Princess Royal, Zara Tindall, and Oliver Townend.


Chatsworth Horse Trials

  • Date: Friday 17th May 2024 – Sunday 19th May 2024
  • Location: Chatsworth House, Peak District

Located not too far from our farm in Disley, Chatsworth Horse Trials invites you to world-class competition in a stunning setting on the Duke of Devonshire's estate in the Peak District.

Key Highlights:

  • Diverse Competitions: Experience the skill of top competitors in disciplines like British dressage, show jumping, and cross-country.
  • Family Fun: Alongside the exciting equestrian action, enjoy entertainment for all ages. Try dog agility, join the family dog show, explore over 100 trade stands in the shopping village, plus the Chatsworth Horse, Gardens, Farmyard, and Playground are all open during the horse trials. It's an amazing family day out!


Horse of the Year Show 2024

  • Date: Wednesday 9th – Sunday 13th October
  • Location: NEC, Birmingham

As summer ends, the best send-off is the Horse of the Year Show, now in its impressive 75th year. It offers an unforgettable experience for equestrian fans of all ages.

Key Highlights:

  • Prestigious Event: HOYS is a highlight in the equestrian world, featuring national championship showjumpers in action and showing classes. With international competitions and captivating displays, it's a thrilling event for both competitors and spectators.
  • Ultimate Achievement: Winning a HOYS showing final is the highest honour for competitors, representing months of hard work. It's a moment of victory for both the show animal and their handlers, symbolising top success in equestrian sports.


Royal Ascot

  • Date: Tuesday 18th June - Saturday 22nd June
  • Location: Ascot, Berkshire

Royal Ascot is an unforgettable week of racing, hospitality, and style, where the best of the best come together for an experience like no other.

Established in 1711 by Queen Anne, Ascot Racecourse has since become synonymous with excellence, hosting champions and creating legends for over 300 years.

Burghley Horse Trials

  • Date: 5th - 8th September 2024
  • Location: Burghley House, Lincolnshire

Burghley Horse Trials stands as a testament to the evolution of equestrian excellence, transforming from its humble beginnings 60 years ago into a world-renowned event that attracts over 173,000 visitors, 600 exhibitors, and 80 of the world's top competitors.

Key Highlights:

  • Royal Connections: The event boasts a history of royal attendance and competitors, enhancing its prestige. Noteworthy are HRH The Princess Royal's win in 1971 and HRH The Countess of Wessex's recent visits, highlighting Burghley's importance in the equestrian world.
  • A Historic Venue: Located in the Elizabethan parkland of Burghley House, the venue provides a spectacular setting for four days of top-level competition. With Captain Mark Phillips, a past winner, as the Course Designer, and elite competitors aiming for victory, Burghley Horse Trials remains a highlight of competition season.
