From Sweden to the British Countryside: Why We Love Pinewood Clothing

From Sweden to Our Fields

Here at Hollands, we’ve had our eye on Pinewood for some time, and after putting it to the test on the farm this summer, we can definitely see why the brand is fast becoming a countryside favourite.

Swedish by design, if you’ve ever struggled to find clothing that works hard without feeling too heavy or overbuilt, we think Pinewood could be a contender as your next favourite country wardrobe addition.

In this post, we want to share with you a little of who Pinewood are, why their Scandinavian roots make such sense for our own British climate, and the pieces that have really impressed us (that we think you’ll love too), as we proudly welcome Pinewood into our Hollands collection.

Who are Pinewood?

Pinewood might be a new name to some here in the UK, but in Sweden, they’re already a trusted favourite. Just like us, the brand began as a family-owned company, starting in Småland in 1966. With a strong ethos and eye for quality, their durable clothing has since grown in popularity and now extends far beyond its Swedish borders.

From the very beginning, their goal has been clear: to design outdoor and country clothing that keeps up with adventure. Nearly 100 years on, and Pinewood continues to clothe those who love to hike, hunt, fish, and generally enjoy the outdoors, with Pinewood fitting into British country wardrobes seamlessly.

For us, they’re not just a Swedish outdoor clothing brand; they believe in helping more people embrace an active life and feel good in nature, and that’s something we strongly connect with here at Hollands too.

Smart Swedish Design, Made for the Countryside

When we first tried Pinewood, what struck us most was how naturally their pieces fit into everyday life here. The Swedish and UK countryside share many of the same challenges, including unpredictable rain showers, biting winds, muddy fields and sporting pursuits that demand clothing designed for more than a dash of drizzle.

Take the Pinewood Dog Handler Jacket, for example (available in both men's and women's), built with dog owners and training enthusiasts in mind. It’s packed with clever technical features, including a durable TC-Lite fabric, multiple ventilation holes for breathability, reinforced panels for wear and tear, and practical pocket systems. Yet, it feels easy to wear and is not overengineered.

He has his hands in the chest pockets of the jacket.

For us at Hollands, that’s where Pinewood shines. They understand layers and fabrics with the same care we value in British country clothing, and just as naturally as at home on the hills in Sweden, Pinewood has taken to country life here in the fields and farms of the UK with ease.

Clothing That Fits Country Life: The Hollands Test

When new collections arrive at Hollands, the first thing we do is try them out ourselves. The brands and pieces we stock play a real part in our everyday lives and wardrobes, so we donned on our best photo faces (as cheesy as they may be) and put Pinewood to the test on the Hollands family farm.

Although we were lucky enough to dodge any downpours, the range still showed us what the gear was made of, and we’ve picked out a few favourites to share with you:

Rob’s Pick

  • Pinewood Men's Caribou TC Trousers
Robert Coates Sat on a dry stone wall with a green folage background. He is wearing a Pinewood T-shirt in moss green, with Green Ridgeline gilet zipped up over the top, the Pinewood Mens Caribou TC Trousers in Terracotta Grey, Blundstone Dealer Boots and a green Ridgeline cap.

Rob’s pick from the Pinewood range was the Caribou TC Trousers. We know Rob likes his technical features, and with elastic 4-way stretch material, articulated knees, opening ventilation for extra airflow, dual leg pockets with zippers, and an elastic waistband, these trousers really are as technically comfortable as they are colourful!

And don’t worry about performance, as all eleven colour options are made with water-repellent TC-Lite fabric and treated with an organic impregnation-Bionic Finish, so they can definitely stand up to the wet weather and muddy paws test as well as look good!

Sarah’s Pick

  • Women's Finnveden Hybrid Extreme Jacket
Sarah Holland stood on a country path infront of a dry stone wall. She is wearing the Pinewood Women's Finnveden Hybrid Extreme Jacket in black and grey, the Harkila Women's Wildwood 2.0 GTX Boots, and Deerhunter Lady Ann trousers in green.

For me, our new arrival, the Pinewood Women's Finnveden Hybrid Extreme Jacket was a standout. Made with a wind and waterproof membrane, lined with high-breathability mesh and featuring splash-proof chest pockets, taped seams and an adjustable hood, it ticked all the boxes for practical performance. It felt high-quality, lightweight and comfortable, not to mention the stylish, stretchy waxed TX material and flattering, feminine cut!

Matt’s Pick

  • Furudal Hunter’s Waterproof Cap

If you know anything about Matt, it’s that he loves a good cap. So, it’s no surprise that his pick from the Pinewood range was the Furudal Hunter’s Waterproof Cap.

What Matt liked most about this one is the balance of comfort and protection. It’s made from Pinewood’s durable TC-Lite fabric with a waterproof membrane, so it stands up to rain without feeling heavy on your head. Add in an adjustable fit, quick-dry finish, and the understated design, and you have, as Matt puts it: “a cap you’ll be glad you grabbed on the way out the door.”

From our top picks to the collection as a whole, Pinewood has become part of our country wardrobe here at Hollands. Their shirts, jackets, trousers, and hats - it’s clothing that not only looks the part, but also stands up to the countryside test, and we’re big fans!

Sustainability & Thoughtful Details

Rural life isn’t the only test Pinewood stands up to. From their base in Sweden, their sustainability story showcases their commitment as a brand to a bigger picture than just top-quality clothing.

Many Pinewood garments are now made with recycled fibres, and they’ve switched to PFC-free waterproof treatments, reducing harmful chemicals while still offering that essential weather protection we rely on. They’re also focused on traceable, responsible production — working with suppliers who share their values and constantly looking for ways to lower their footprint.

Pinewood has always believed in creating clothing that works with nature, not against it, and we admire how practical and considered their approach is. Pinewood clothing is built to last, with tough fabrics like TC-Lite that don’t wear thin too quickly, and thoughtful reinforcements where you need them most, meaning fewer replacements, less waste, and clothing that genuinely serves you season after season.

For us at Hollands, that’s the kind of sustainability that makes sense. It’s everyday countryside practicality with a conscience, and Pinewood proves that you don’t have to choose between performance, comfort, and responsibility- you can have all three.

Why Pinewood Belongs in Your Wardrobe This Season

For us, Pinewood has quickly earned its place in our country wardrobe, alongside the brands we know and trust. Just as Alan Paine is a go-to for timeless tweed, and Ridgeline for dependable New Zealand outerwear, Pinewood is becoming a favourite for high-quality, technical country clothing that feels perfectly at home in the British countryside.

We love the balance of Scandinavian simplicity and countryside practicality, and most importantly, these are clothes that work for real rural life. The designs are understated but clever, whether it’s a waterproof jacket for a dog walk, trousers that can take a day in the field, or simple fleeces that keep the chill out. Each piece is built to withstand the mud, wind, and rain without ever feeling overdone. Add in their thoughtful approach to sustainability, and it’s clear Pinewood is a brand that looks after both the wearer and the wider landscape.

At Hollands, we’re proud to bring Pinewood into our collection, because its clothing we know works. It’s tested in our fields, on our walks, and with our families, and we’re so pleased to now share it with our customers. Because when clothing is this well-made, it feels like a natural part of the country clothing set-up.
